A Life Built Around Learning
Alysia McClung founded Luminous Potential after more than a decade spent offering mentor guidance in classrooms, leadership offices, and living rooms — anywhere a student, teacher, or family needed a clearer education pathway forward. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Idaho (go Vandals!) before heading east to earn her Master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University, and she is currently completing her Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) credential to bring an even deeper, whole-person lens to her work with students and families.
Her career has spanned public, charter, and private schools — including time at Fondren Middle School in Houston ISD, a Title I campus, where she saw firsthand how much of a difference intentional systems and genuine advocacy can make for students in under-resourced communities. Alongside that work, she has spent much of her career focused on gifted and talented (GT) education, coaching teachers and designing programming that helps advanced learners stay challenged, engaged, and known. She has also served as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, school administrator — including a principalship — and in executive leadership within an educational technology startup, giving her a rare, full-circle view of what schools actually need to thrive.
Above all, Alysia is a proud mother of two, and that role shapes everything about how she approaches this work. She knows what it feels like to sit across the table from a teacher or a counselor and want a straight answer, a real plan, and someone who actually sees your child. That’s the experience she set out to build with Luminous Potential: compassionate, research-informed guidance from someone who has lived on every side of the classroom — as a teacher, a leader, and a parent.
